S. C. Johnson & Son, Inc. (commonly referred to as S. C. Johnson) is an American multinational privately held manufacturer of household cleaning supplies and other consumer chemicals based in Racine, Wisconsin. In 2017, S. C. Johnson employed approximately 13,000 people and had estimated sales of $10 billion. The company is owned by the Johnson family. H. Fisk Johnson, Chairman and CEO since 2004, is the fifth generation of the Johnson family to lead the company.
A current employee says details a toxic environment saying, "Hostile environment at [SC Johnson]. Many associates complained to HR only to experience retaliation from management and only left with a choice to leave. During Black Lives Matter senior management disregarded associates views to be involve/help and instead experienced racial insensitivity. Again HR did not hold management accountable."
A former IT manager says, "To work in IT sucks there - with many transformations that the IT organization [at SC Johnson] went through in the last 5-6 years, the employee's are heavily overworked and training is not guaranteed, constant finger-pointing and power fights in leadership - the folks in the leadership levels have no trust from the levels below - they are bleeding a lot of talent in the last 6 month and I feel bad for the folks that have to fight the mess as leadership rather thinks some consultant can easily solve it. Investment in folks is super hard to get approved by senior leadership - In-fighting inside the towers in the IT world makes every simple thing twice as hard."

Company is Striving to purge everyone who stays long enough to vest. The tone is set so that you feel like the place is one payment from bankruptcy/ the future looks dire yet the Johnson family's wealth has exploded during and after the Great Recession. Meanwhile People are being shamed into working forced weekends while others are burning Jetfuel to stage photo ops with pop bottles."

Other departments within the organization have a positive reputation, but this one is dysfunctional under current leadership. Very unfortunate because the team is strong."

There is zero work life balance and the work from home policy is a farce. You should drive into the office in a snowstorm v. working from home. No trust in employees. I know not all departments are like this and some are wonderful. It's the luck of the draw. Beware!!"
Production Operative (Former Employee) says"There is a high turn over of staff, family members are given priority of hours, overtime and not having to work as hard as other employees. Some of the line runners are amazing and will treat you with respect, some are awful. Be prepared to cut open plastic cartons and pour copious amount of their products Soap Swarfega etc down their drains ?! Because a container is squashed or there are surplus to the order, huge amount of environmental waste and plastics :( I left after 3 months as only decent staff left, and you could be on a line for 3 shifts solid getting a headache from Swarfega fumes while other staff related to office staff would be on a easy line or stood chatting for hours? No proper rotation , 95% staff under 35 years oldLose weight build arm strength and resilienceHaving to remove boiler suit boots etc in 10 min break"

No work life balance. Vacation time is spent working to keep up with deliverables. Promotions are cherry picked for under-performers to stop the bleed of talent leaving the company as they know under-performers will not leave and continue to be overworked. Constant push to move jobs to Chicago from Racine to source managements former co-workers is on-going creating a lot of disruption. Multiple locations and job functions spread across 4 different locations in Racine and Chicago creates inefficiencies. They do not value there employees and use fear as a motivating tool. The wages are great but that is the only part left of this once great place to work. Two weeks ongoing now and no replacement provided even after numerous attempts to contact them. I feel lied to, angry and ripped off to be honest.
